A Clopay weather seal replacement in Austin typically runs $110 – $220 installed, and we keep Clopay-compatible seals on our trucks so most jobs are done in one visit. The bottom seal is the long rubber strip running along the base of your door. It’s also the part that takes the most abuse from Texas heat, sudden cold snaps, and the occasional flash flood.
Most Austin homeowners discover theirs has failed when they spot daylight under the door, find water pooling in the garage after a storm, or notice leaves and dirt collecting inside. You might also feel a draft or see the rubber cracking and crumbling when you run your hand across it. It’s a small part with an outsized job: keeping water, bugs, dust, and rodents out while helping your garage hold temperature.
Which Clopay Models This Applies To
We replace weather seals on the full Clopay residential lineup, including the Classic, Gallery, Coachman, Grand Harbor, and Reserve collection doors. Whether your door is steel, aluminum, or composite, the seal sits in the same bottom retainer channel. Clopay uses a few retainer profiles depending on model year and door thickness, so matching the new seal to the existing aluminum or steel channel matters more than the series name.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss: the seal itself is universal across most brands, but the retainer profile is not. Clopay doors built before roughly 2010 often use a T-style channel, while newer models typically use an A-style or P-bulb shape. You can check by pulling a small section of the existing seal from the end of the door and looking at the cross-section. If you’re not sure, snap a photo and text it to us before we dispatch. Our techs can identify most profiles from a picture and arrive with the right part the first time.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: we carry genuine Clopay seals and quality aftermarket equivalents that match the profile and UV rating. The aftermarket versions are often made from the same EPDM rubber compound and cost less. The deciding factor is fit, not brand. A seal that’s too tall drags and tears; one that’s too short leaves a gap. We’d rather put a properly fitted aftermarket seal on than a genuine Clopay part that doesn’t seat right.
Marlow Garage Door Repair Austin is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Clopay, but we do stock parts for their doors – along with LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Genie openers.

Signs Your Clopay Weather Seal Replacement Is Failing
- Visible daylight under the door. If you can see a sliver of light where the door meets the floor, the seal has compressed, shifted, or torn. On a 2023 home in Mueller, the concrete settles over time and low spots form. The seal is supposed to flex into those dips, not ride above them.
- Water pooling inside after rain. Austin’s spring storms can drop an inch in an hour. The seal is your first line of defense. When the rubber loses its flexibility from UV exposure, water wicks right under it.
- The rubber feels brittle, cracked, or flat. Texas heat bakes garage-door rubber. A new seal is springy and rounded at the bottom. One that’s been baking for five or six summers turns hard and rectangular. You can squeeze it and it won’t bounce back.
- Bugs, dust, or leaves inside the garage. Rollie-pollies don’t need much of a gap. Neither do scorpions, which we see often enough in newer developments around Round Rock and Georgetown to mention it. If your garage floor is dusty along the door line every morning, the seal isn’t sealing.
- Higher AC bills or a hot garage wall. A garage isn’t usually conditioned space, but every degree you lose in a sun-facing garage bleeds into the adjacent room. Homeowners in Crestview and Hyde Park with older Clopay doors often notice the house stays cooler after the seal is replaced.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Austin, a Clopay weather seal replacement runs $110 – $220, depending on door width and whether the retainer channel itself needs to be replaced. A standard 16-foot double door with a good retainer lands on the lower end. If the aluminum channel is bent, corroded, or crushed from a car bumper, that adds to the total. You’ll see the exact number in writing before any work starts.
Our price includes the seal, removal of the old material, cleaning the retainer channel, cutting the new seal to length, and fitting it. On wider doors, we also add a couple of adhesive points at the ends to keep the seal from creeping sideways in the heat. Every weather seal replacement is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the seal slips, gaps, or fails within a year, we’re back to fix it at no charge. And because you get the written price before we start, the number on your invoice matches the number you agreed to. Every time.
DIY or Call Us?
Weather seal replacement is one of the safer garage door jobs to attempt yourself, no high-tension springs involved. You can slide the old seal out, measure the door width, and buy a replacement online. The job gets tricky on two fronts: matching the retainer profile correctly, and feeding a 16-foot strip through a channel that has dirt, corrosion, or a slight bend in it. Get the profile wrong and you’ll have a brand new seal that doesn’t sit flush. Force it through a dirty channel and it’ll hang up halfway, then bunch in the corners.
It’s a 30-minute job for a tech who does it weekly, and a two-and-a-half-hour frustration for someone doing it on a Saturday morning. If you’d rather hand it off, call (361) 320-8872 and we’ll get you booked. If you want to try it yourself first, take a photo of the seal end and send it over. Jaylen Ross has been known to tell a customer exactly what to order, even if it means we don’t do the job. Tell them what’s broken, tell them the price, fix it – that’s the whole job.
FAQs
Three to five years is realistic for a Clopay weather seal in Central Texas. Direct sun exposure on a west-facing door shortens that to two or three years, while a shaded north-facing door can go six. The failure you’ll see first is hardening, then cracking, then gaps.
No. Once the rubber has cracked or lost its shape, there’s no adhesive or patch that holds up for more than a few weeks. The repair is the replacement. The good news: it’s one of the lowest-cost parts on your door. Call (361) 320-8872 and we’ll quote it over the phone.
About 30 to 45 minutes for a standard two-car garage door. Most of that time is cleaning the old seal residue and debris out of the retainer channel. Single-car doors are faster. It’s a one-visit job, and we carry the common Clopay profiles on the trucks.
We stock Clopay-compatible seals for both T-style and A-style/P-bulb retainer channels, in lengths up to 23 feet. If you have a rare retainer profile, we’ll source it and return as soon as it’s in. Either way, you’ll know the timeline before we start. Call (361) 320-8872 for a free estimate.
